Unforgettable Cape Cod Memories Tip #4
Tip #4 for making unforgettable memories on Cape Cod – Spend the afternoon in Truro. Lighthouses, Wine-tasting and Sunsets, oh my! Begin your afternoon journey touring Highland Lighthouse (http://www.lighthouse.cc/highland/index.html). Next stop - Truro Vineyards, Cape Cod’s very own winery for a wine tasting and tour (http://trurovineyardsofcapecod.com). Dinner at Babe’s (http://www.babesmedbistro.com). End the evening watching the sunset over Provincetown from one of our favorite bayside beaches (follow Shore Road to Dutra’s Market, turn on Pond Road and follow to the end).

Take ‘em out to the ballgame! There was a movie made about it, Summer Catch. It stared Jessica Biel and Freddie Prince, Jr, and it was about players concluding their spring seasons at their colleges and universities, and heading to Cape Cod. They’re college kids, not yet professional athletes, so they mostly take public transportation with buses and trains being the most common. Title 9 gives them partial or full scholarships from their own communities, but it’s not enough to live a luxurious lifestyle. Some work part-time jobs in town like at sandwich shops or at the various gyms, while others coach a variety of clinics for 6-8 year old ball players and for 9-12 year olds. The athletes come from all over the country. We see them walking around town or eating lunch. While many are from Southern baseball factories like Oklahoma State, Clemson, and UNC Chapel Hill, others are from Holy Cross, Boston College, and the University of Maine. While they’re well-traveled, it’s unlikely that many of the athletes have been to Cape Cod before. With the way the town turns out in support of them they’re in for a treat. Baseball has been a part of Orleans’ history since the early 1900′s. Catch an Orleans Firebirds game. They’re free and you’ll see some outstanding, competitive ball. And who knows? Over a dozen players were called up last week so you may eventually see these players in the Major League long after you leave Wellfleet!
